I have decided that the genre and main idea of my coursework will be based on a kidnapping film, which fits into the genre of being a thriller. I have chosen this genre because not only is it different, but because thrillers (alongside horrors/chick flicks) are my Favorite genre of film, and some of my ultimate favorite films have been thrillers such as shutter island and silence of the lamb.
I also feel that a thriller may be difficult, particularly with getting the correct codes & conventions, these factors however really motivates me to do well and carry along with this particular genre as I want to challenge myself.
The plot line of my film will be based on a young boy who gets kidnapped whilst on holiday and is forced to live a new lifestyle, under an institution which is (at the end) discovered being notorious for taking, manipulating and damaging children. The boy get's taken whilst on holiday with his mother who is a single Mum and is taken back to the institution where he is introduced to 26 other children, being labelled 'Child 27' (he is the 27th child they have taken that year). The kidnappers motive behind this is that they are in fact elderly rejected psychologists/scientists who want to see if they can turn normal, healthy children into feral psychopaths by leaving them in an institution (their 'lab'/children's new 'home'), convincing them their parents sent them there for a couple of years before releasing them back into the world. I feel like this would be interesting to do as it is very different and I believe quite original, and it will be interesting to see how it all turns out in the end and if they finally get stopped.
