Character Analysis (outside genre)

Regina George is the main antagonist from mean girls. Character wise, she represents the stereotypical blonde cheerleader type female. For starters, Regina is the most popular girl at the high school, and has her own little ‘team’ of friends, who are also popular, but are evidently less prettier and less well known/acknowledged. This is stereotypical for an antagonist, as the antagonist usually has minions who just follow them about and practically glorify them (copying and abiding by the antagonist) as they are the leader of the pack. To add on to that, Regina is also the most ‘feared’ girl of the school and can also be seen as the school bully, being very manipulative with no-one rarely standing up to her, despite her being unfriendly to people, which is very stereotypical for an antagonist as the antagonist tends to hold a lot of power over civilians and being extremely superior – only getting defeated by the protagonist.
Regina’s appearance is also very stereotypical of a blonde and female in general, her hair is always done very nicely and smart, makeup done, wearing very high-end, fashionable clothes – taking very much care of her appearance. Her clothes in particular, tend to consist of colours which are stereotypically feminine and ‘girly’- this representing her as the stereotypical ‘girly-girl’, makeup-obsessed female. To add on to that, her clothing also tends to show a lot of her skin, particularly her legs, which sexualizes her.
Following unto her clothing sexualizing her, Regina’s character and persona heavily agrees with the stereotypical promiscuous, sexually active blonde. For example, Regina is seen on several occasions doing sexual activities with males within the movie, such as one time in her bedroom she is making out with a guy in her bedroom and another time her making out and half naked with another guy in the janitor’s office, this also showing a lack of respect and morals as she is doing sexual things within a public place such as school. Adding on to the lack of respect, there is a scene in Mean Girls in which a hole is cut in her t-shirt in which her bra would be and she is not even phased by it, in fact going out with her bra on show – these actions also making Regina appear to be a bit of an attention seeker. To add on to that, Regina is cheating on her boyfriend, which also shows her lack of self-respect and in some ways, dignity. There is also a scene within Mean Girls where Regina and the rest of her friendship group do a very provocative, degrading dance, this further representing her as a promiscuous, sexually active character.
Regina also extremely vain, this is shown by her thinking she is better than anyone else, and constant looking at herself in her mirror. Regina’s mind-set of her thinking she is better than everyone else is also shown in a scene in the movie where we are at her house and she states that her bedroom used to previously be her parent’s but she kicked them out, this further also showing her lack of respect, this time towards her princess. Regina also appears very influential as many people look up to her at school, even when she is rude to them the people actually appreciates it. To add on to that, you can see how influential Regina is when you witness the difference of Kady in the beginning of the film till near the end, also as Kady spends more time with Regina she forms into a ‘mini Regina’ just like the rest of the plastics group.
